Thanksgiving is the perfect time for giving thanks to the people in our lives and all that we have. It is also an appropriate time to give back to the local community and lend a hand to our friends and neighbors who need help. DSC is proud to continue our tradition of giving back by supporting the Utah Food Bank for the tenth consecutive year.
Teresa Jensen explains why DSC is passionate about supporting the food bank and encourages others to contribute to the food bank. “We have many friends and neighbors right here in Utah who don’t know where their next meal is coming from,” she said. “Recent statistics show that 1 in 11 Utahns are at risk of missing a meal each and 1 in 9 Utah kids are facing food insecurity. No child, senior or adult should ever go hungry, so we are pleased to continue helping those in need and encourage our friends and colleagues to join in the fight against hunger.”
DSC’s longtime support of the food bank is based on its incredible reach to every population or group in Utah and its excellent reputation for doing the most with the money donated. The food bank is there for anyone who needs it—those from all walks of life. The organization keeps its administrative costs in check by leveraging its buying power to support many agencies that serve as its vehicles for distribution. They make the most of each donation and supplement contributions with grants. According to the food bank’s website, for every dollar donated, $8 worth of food can be distributed to local families. They can feed a family of four for two weeks for just $20.
The Thanksgiving season also gives our employees a well-deserved break by celebrating Thanksgiving with a four-day weekend.
On behalf of everyone at DSC, we thank everyone who supports the food bank, and we wish you and yours a very Happy Thanksgiving!
